Invitation

The UK in general and Liverpool in particular has a very long historic association with cotton trading. Liverpool is the home to the internationally renowned International Cotton Association and the UK is still involved in a range of cotton-related research projects.

It is with great pleasure, therefore, that on behalf of Her Majesty’s Government of the United Kingdom, I invite you to the 64th Plenary Session of the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC) which will take place in Liverpool between 25th and 29th September 2005 at the city’s St George’s Hall.

Liverpool is a city on the move. UNESCO recently designated the city’s waterfront and downtown area as a World Heritage site based on its unique significance as a pioneering port, clearly associated with cotton. Liverpool has also been selected as the European Capital of Culture for 2008.

I am sure you will enjoy visiting Liverpool and I have no doubt that the ICAC Plenary will be a success.

Patricia Hewitt
Secretary of State for Trade and Industry
