Dr. Jack C.McCarthy Jr – ICAC Researcher of the Year 2016
Dr. McCarthy works for Agriculture Research Service of the US Department of Agriculture. Currently, he is an Adjunct Professor at the Mississippi State University, Mississippii, USA. Dr. McCarthy?s research area is Agronomy/Breeding with emphasis in expanding cotton?s genetic diversity, conversion of photoperiodic primitive races of cotton to day-neutrality, germplasm enhancement for improved fiber quality, and breeding for nematode resistance.
Dr. McCarthy has presented his research at numerous national and International Forums. He has published 163 peer reviewed manuscripts and 102 non-peer reviewed papers. He has counseled numerous undergraduate/graduate students, and is always willing to spend time mentoring younger scientists. Dr. McCarthy?s innovative research developed over 500 germplasm lines. He co-developed plant mapping technology that shows the relative contribution of each fruiting site to final cotton lint yield. Dr. McCarthy attended the world cotton research conferences in 1998, 2003, 2007 and 2016.
Alison Ward has over 30 years of international experience in sustainability and corporate affairs. Alison is the CEO of CottonConnect, where she leads a team of over 100 employees, impacting the lives of over 800,000 cotton farmers in India, China, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt and Bangladesh. Under Alison’s leadership the organization: drives supply chain transparency connecting sustainable fibres from farm to store; focuses on the rights and skills of women in supply chains through pioneering gender programmes; and continues to develop innovations at a farm level. She leads cotton strategies and programmes for global brands and retailers.
