The Cotton Data Book
This massive, 500+ page encyclopaedia of cotton production practices, analysis and statistics is updated annually and released during the fourth quarter of each year. Currently produced as a digital PDF, the ICAC is currently working to convert the publication into a dynamic, searchable, online resource that provides a wealth of information about all cotton-producing countries, including:
- All field operations, from pre-sowing to harvesting and ginning,
- The cost of production of cotton per hectare and per kilogram,
- Country-by country lists of the varieties of cotton grown and their fibre characteristics,
- Detailed overviews of the insects, diseases and weeds found in each country, as well as the methods used to control them, and
- Comprehensive data on the use of fertilisers, farm size, rotations, harvesting and ginning.
The research part of the publication focuses on research systems, variety approval processes, funding sources, input supplies (seed, fertiliser and pesticides), technology transfer with cotton maps for various countries and a list research institutions/organization, farmers associations, ginners association and textile associations.
